Antar-Agni and Bodice have been announced as the menswear and womenswear winners, respectively, of the 2017/18 International Woolmark Prize Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East regional final. The designers have each won $70,000 Australian dollars and entry into the global finals later this year.

The winning designs were selected by a panel at the FIVE Palm Jumeirah in Dubai and included fashion designer Manish Malhotra, GQ India’s Editor-in-Chief Che Kurrien and a number of editors spanning publications across the region. Creative designer of Antar-Agni, Ujjawal Dubey’s winning menswear look was inspired by nomadic tribesmen from across India and featured multiple layers of woven twill. “Antar-Agni created something true to his belief,” explained Malhotra.

Bodice’s Ruchika Sachdeva was named womenswear winner for her 18th century-inspired Indian Nautch girl costume, contrasted with modern menswear tailoring. The wool fibre and fabric used in the designs were sourced from five different parts of India. “I am truly honoured to win this award because it gives Bodice the opportunity for real global expansion and provides the funding to allow me to create an incredible collection,” said Sachdeva.

Up next for both is the Woolmark finals. Good luck.
