Angelina Jolie Brought Back Old Hollywood Glamour to the 2024 Venice Film Festival

Angelina Jolie is singlehandedly bringing old Hollywood glamour back at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. Last night, the actor attended the premiere of Pablo Larraín’s Maria, in which she plays Greek opera singer Maria Callas.

Channeling the character, Angelina Jolie opted for a stunning chiffon gown in a light beige hue, paired with a faux-fur stole by Tamara Ralph. The look was adorned by a gold rose-shaped brooch by Cartier, which once belonged to Callas. The custom number, created exclusively for Jolie by Ralph, also featured a form-flattering draped detail. Jolie elevated the drama of her look with a bold glam, which consisted of a red pout and matching nails, and a subtle smokey eye. The star wore her blonde locks down in her signature sleek side part.

The evening was a memorable one for Jolie, as she was moved to tears by an eight-minute standing ovation at the Sala Grande Theatre for her performance in Maria. What’s more, the actor’s work is already receiving Oscar buzz, marking the first time in 15 years Jolie has contended in the best actress race. The film’s distribution has been acquired by Netflix, and it is expected to hit the streaming platform later this year.

At a Venice Film Festival press conference earlier that day, Jolie shared her experience of starring in the movie, and stepping into the shoes of the soprano. “Everybody here knows, I was terribly nervous,” Jolie said of learning to sing opera. “I spent almost seven months training because when you work with Pablo you can’t do anything by half. He demands, in the most wonderful way, that you really do the work and you really learn and train.”
