First View: You’ll Fall for Anatomi’s Resort Collection

Designer Doaa Alghouti has crafted a Resort 2017 collection called The Crystal Ocean in prime time for Ramadan and Eid wardrobes, featuring styles with geometrical shapes inspired by nature. In a muted palette of understated sea mists, sand, paper whites, and soft blues, the conservative collection of separates and abayas has sartorial flourishes including riffs of pleats and subtle scatterings of crystal embellishments. While the silhouettes are classical, the treatment of the Anatomi abaya is a natural evolution from the brand’s Spring 2017 collection, which sees the outerwear take on confident but subtle detailing. Vogue Arabia speaks to the Dubai-based designer to decode the story behind the new offering.
What sparked the ocean theme for your Resort 2017 collection?

Last year I visited Santorini for the first time and I was in awe of its incredible beauty. I found the exquisite colors, the vast ocean, and the tranquil beaches really inspiring, so that’s where the theme came from.

Which piece are you most proud of?

The blush-coloured pleated dress, as it captures the glimmering ocean effect on the bodice, while the moving pleats represent waves.

Describe the Anatomi customer in three words.

Elegant, modern, and refined.

How does your cultural heritage influence your designs?

I like to mix Eastern and Western influences to create elegant, understated pieces. Silhouettes are designed with the Middle Eastern woman in mind so they are modest yet modern, while I draw inspiration from my travels overseas. Overall, I focus on simplicity and timeless styles that transcend seasons.

The collection is currently available at the Culinary Boutique x FE May Fusion Pop Up until May 25.
