For a groundbreaking Omani designer, the breathtaking National Museum in Muscat is a dream fashion show venue – albeit one not easy to secure. But if you’re as passionate about your home country as Amal Al Raisi, you’ll make it happen. Which is how dignitaries, foreign press, influencers, and the cream of Omani society recently descended on the museum for her Spring 2019 collection presentation, held in the Grand Atrium – the very first time the museum hosted a fashion show. For Spring 2019, the designer was inspired by Al Baleed, a Unesco World Heritage Site in the south of the country. “I try to reflect an element from my Omani heritage in every collection I design,” Al Raisi says. Models were flanked by exquisite exhibits of Omani national dress, as they showed off Al Raisi’s flowing creations in a soothing palette of dusky pinks, emerald greens, rich burgundies, and the palest of sage. The modest collection featured interesting silhouettes like jumpsuits and capes, all accented with delicate hand-embroidery done in Al Raisi’s studio in the capital.
