Amal Al Raisi on her Dhofar Inspired Ramadan Collection

Vogue Arabia checks in with designer and CNI Luxury Conference speaker Amal Al Raisi to explore the story behind her capsule collection primed for Ramadan 2017. With swathes of premium silk, clever twists of tulle, and in-built elegance, these key pieces strike the perfect balance between understated and chic. “My new collection is inspired by the region of Dhofar, which is located in southern Oman and is known for its abundance of frankincense,” Al Raisi tells Vogue Arabia. “Dhofar gained fame during the time of the Silk Route as a pivotal stop for Chinese ships to purchase frankincense, which they would then take to Europe to supply churches and cathedrals.”

“In terms of new techniques, I worked with international print designer Louise Amstrup to develop two custom prints for the collection. Both prints are inspired by the beautiful landscape in Dhofar; the ocean reflections, the mountains and the iconic frankincense trees,” Al Raisi says. “I used silk and tulle, making sure the fabrics were light and wearable for the hot summer months.”

“Modest style is really starting to take off internationally, with the fashion industry finally recognizing the potential and the need for it globally,” Al Raisi tells Vogue Arabia. While growing the brand’s presence in the region is important, the designer has expansive international ambitions – the first port of call being the UK market. “I’ve always wanted my brand to cross borders and cultures. I believe the time is now and I’m working hard to be the go-to brand for modest style globally.”

The Amal Al Raisi Ramadan capsule collection is available now on Ounass, and at Harvey Nichols Kuwait, Maison Bo-M Riyadh, Rubaiyat Jeddah, Sauce, Room 206, Larishka Beirut, Cream Beirut, and at the flagship boutique in Muscat, Dar Al Aseel.
