For Fall 2017, Omani designer Amal Al Raisi took an unexpected collaborative turn with premium furrier Kopenhagen Fur. The result? Al Raisi’s signature Omani-inspired key pieces – feminine and understatedly elegant – with nonchalant pom-pom detailing dotted about. “The partnership worked out perfectly for this collection as the fur details elevate the styles and harmoniously tie East with West. I’m thrilled with the outcome,” says Al Raisi.

“I am now focusing on regional and international markets, and with the demand for modest fashion growing rapidly, it’s an exciting time. On July 3rd I showed my Fall 2017 collection at Torino Fashion Week,” Al Raisi tells Vogue Arabia. “The Islamic Fashion & Design Council is producing a modest fashion category at TFW, which I have the honor of being part of. It’s a wonderful opportunity to raise the profile of modest fashion designers globally and to also expose my brand to new markets.” The 2017 Torino Fashion Week took place on June 27 at the Murazzi del Po in Turin.

As per the maison’s seasonal rotations, Al Raisi has launched a mainline for Fall and a capsule of heritage-inspired pieces. “For Fall 2017, I was inspired by Oman’s architecture, which has been influenced by a variety of styles and cultures, making it quite different to the rest of the Gulf. I referenced the beautiful Arabic arches unique to Oman and interpreted these intriguing designs into the embellishment patterns. It’s an elegant collection with relaxed yet feminine styles.”

Both collections follow the brand’s DNA signature of fluid silhouettes in a palette of paper white, soft blush, French navy, and bronze across velvets, mesh, and cottons. “I contrasted lightweight fabrics suitable for the mild Gulf winter with soft velvets to suit cold temperatures abroad,” the designer says. While the brand has cemented itself onto the Middle Eastern fashion scene, Al Raisi’s sights are set on going global and firming up her audiences in Europe and the US. “Over the past nine years my brand has evolved and developed but I still remain true to its DNA,” she reflects. A sentiment that will see her designs stand sure among growing competition in the marketplace.
