Just last month, Gigi Hadid was on cloud nine after Beyoncé sported pieces from her collaboration with jeweler Messika – and it looks like the model’s design talents have now won over another A-list fan. The half-Palestinian catwalk star took to Instagram on Wednesday to celebrate the fact that one legendary pop icon has donned her Gigi x Vogue Eyewear collaboration.
“Oh. My. Madonna,” Hadid captioned a shot of the 59-year-old Frozen singer wearing a pair of sculptural cat-eye sunnies. “Thank you so much for including #gigiforvogueeyewear in this amazing story.” The image was taken from Madonna’s cover story and shoot with Vogue Italia, who captured the US star for their August 2018 issue. Madonna, who opens up in the accompanying interview about her recent relocation to Portugal with her family, was captured by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott as she prepares to mark her 60th birthday on August 16.
In another win for Hadid, Vogue Italia’s creative director Giovanni Bianco told WWD that Madonna “basically did her own styling”, meaning the star most likely took a fancy to the 23-year-old model’s designs. Hadid first debuted a collaboration with Vogue Eyewear for Fall 2017, and unveiled her second line with the accessories label for Spring 2018. The latest collection is laden with retro-infused silhouettes, as well as more ’70s-infused round shades, and sleek ’90s-style frames.
The model-turned designer has also lent her eye to Tommy Hilfiger, with whom she created four capsule collections, and fine jeweler Messika. While she still hits the catwalk every fashion week, and continues to score magazine cover after magazine cover, could Hadid later move into a full-time design role? Judging by the success of her endeavors so far, we’re certainly not ruling it out.
