5 Yves Saint Laurent Auction Looks to Bid from Catherine Deneuve’s Closet

French actor Catherine Deneuve, confidante of Yves Saint Laurent, is selling her extensive personal collection of YSL clothing January 24 through Christie’s in Paris. Some 300 pieces, including accessories, are being previewed this week to the public ahead of the auction.

Introduced to the house of Saint Laurent by her first husband, British photographer David Bailey, Deneuve saw her initial meeting with the couturier flourish into a lifelong friendship. Faithful to Saint Laurent, she often turned to him for dresses and impeccable tailleurs for her appearances at awards ceremonies, red carpet events, and on occasion, he even provided her wardrobe for her films, including Belle du Jour (1967). The catalyst for the sale, Deneuve has sold her house in Normandy, where she has kept her YSL wardrobe.
