2022 is the Year of the Tiger, a fact you’ll have noticed by all of the Lunar New Year collections designers are dropping. Of course, it’s not the first time fashion has fallen for these magnificent big cats.

Like leopard spots, tiger stripes are a recurring motif. They’ve been knit into sweaters, woven into jacquards, and printed every which way. Some designers, like Fausto Puglisi at Roberto Cavalli, have gone further, depicting the face and body of the beast in their motifs. And then there are the couturiers, including Daniel Roseberry at Schiaparelli and Alexandre Vauthier, who have conjured them with hand-applied sequins.

To mark the Lunar New Year we’ve collected some of the moments the tiger has burned most brightly (to borrow from William Blake’s famous poem) in fashion.
