Launching this evening at the Tashkeel Art Gallery in Dubai, the ninth edition of Made in Tashkeel will feature artworks from more than 30 participants, such as Dubai-based visual artists Afshan Daneshvar and Hind bin Demaithan. Works on display throughout the summer will cover various mediums such as printmaking, calligraphy, photography, and painting, among others.

The exhibition will feature striking images by Marta Lamovsek, a Dubai-based, Slovenian-born photographer and creative director, whose work has been displayed across the globe including in the UK and Romania.

Additionally, the contemporary art museum will be selling a range of products with hand-printed artworks by Tashkeel members for the first time this year. Celebrated Iraqi calligrapher Wissam Shawkat is among the artists who created artwork specifically for Made in Tashkeel.

Established in 2008 by Lateefa bint Maktoum, Tashkeel offers a platform for emerging artists, alongside established UAE-based artists. Aiming to bring local talent to the international circuit, the contemporary art museum runs three residencies each year and nurtures cross-cultural dialogue with other artists via its partner residencies (up to six a year) with the likes of the Delfina Foundation in London. Tashkeel also offers select artists studio facilities and international fellowships.

Made in Tashkeel 2017 runs from May 25 to 30 August 2017, from 10am to 8pm Saturday-Thursday and 10am to 5pm throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan.
