Tonight was the night. Under the stars at the glittering gala held at the One & Only Royal Mirage Hotel in Dubai, UAE-based ready-to-wear brand Reemami and Egypt-based accessories label Okhtein were announced as the winners of the 2016 DDFC/Vogue Fashion Prize for the ready-to-wear and accessories categories. The two winning brands will each receive a collective prize valued at US $250,000; the opportunity to sell their Spring 2017 collections on Farfetch.com and partner boutiques including partners Browns (London), Curve (USA), and Al Ostoura (Kuwait); receive high-level mentorship; and an advertising campaign promoting their retail launch. Meanwhile, Ralph Masri, was awarded a financial grant of US $15,000 from Farfetch to further develop his fine jewelry label.
Palestinian ready-to-wear designer Reema Al Banna of Reemami captured the jury panel’s imagination for her graphic and vivid prints during deliberation. Meanwhile, Egyptian sister duo designers Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf of Okhtein impressed the selection committee for simultaneously capturing the essence of both eastern and western consumers with their bags.

Now in its second edition, the groundbreaking Fashion Prize launched in 2015 in partnership with Farfetch as a platform for promising talents from the Arab world. “Following the historic, digital-first launch of Vogue Arabia, the Fashion Prize is shining a new light on emerging fashion talent from the Arab world and continues a long-standing commitment around the world from Vogue to support local ecosystem development,” says Shashi Menon, CEO and Publisher of Vogue Arabia.
Meanwhile, Nez Gebreel, CEO of the Dubai Design & Fashion Council, adds, “The DDFC/Vogue Fashion Prize is aligned with our mandate of developing a sustainable design and fashion industry by nurturing homegrown talent. We were impressed by the creativity of applicants from all over the Middle East, and we are proud to be able to offer our designers the opportunity to be discovered globally, alongside financial support and mentorship.”
