Lebanese fans of Céline Dion will no longer be learning The Power of Love this summer as the Canadian superstar recently canceled her upcoming concert in Beirut amidst the ongoing protests surrounding the country. Previously scheduled to perform at the 2020 Byblos International Festival in July, Dion will no longer be joining the lineup according to a statement the organizers released earlier this month.

“Due to the current situation in Lebanon, Byblos International Festival and Celine Dion Management have both agreed with deep regret to cancel Celine Dion’s appearance at Beirut Waterfront on July 31st 2020,” informed the post.

The five-time Grammy Award winner kicked-off her Courage world tour in her native Canada back in September and plans to perform the number one album in almost 100 cities across Europe and North America. With the stop in Lebanon now canceled, Dion will no longer be making her way to the Middle East during this tour to the chagrin of many fans in the region. As the singer’s first English album in six years and her 12th English soundtrack overall, Courage features melodies about losing love, finding the strength to persevere in the face of the unknown, and embracing one’s own imperfections.

An avid supporter of Arab designers, not only does the My Heart Will Go On artist wear a glittering scarlet gown by Yousef Al-Jasmi on the album cover art but also equally dazzling ensembles by the Kuwaiti designer throughout the tour. While promoting the album’s drop in November, Dion also donned earrings from Lebanese fine jeweler Ralph Masri in her official promo shots and a fold-out poster inside the physical CD.

While the full list of artists appearing at this year’s edition of the Byblos International Festival is still unknown, previous performers included stars from various nationalities and musical genres including pop legends Elton John and John Legend, electronic sensations Martin Garrix and The Chainsmokers, classical geniuses Yo-Yo Ma and Yanni, and Lebanese balladist Melhem Zein, encouraging concertgoers to keep an eye out for the final lineup regardless of the cancellation.
