Ahead of the global release of Challengers, star tennis player Serena Williams has shared her thoughts on the film with Zendaya.

Zendaya recently revealed what Serena Williams thought of her upcoming film Challengers, in which the actor plays the role of a tennis player-turned-coach Tashi Duncan. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the 26-year-old star shared the iconic athlete’s thoughts on the Luca Guadagnino-directed movie. “She was like, ‘I know there definitely weren’t real [tennis] balls,'” Zendaya recalled. “She knows. She’s the best of the best.” Jokes aside, Zendaya also added that Williams commended her skills in the film. “She did say that it was great considering that I had never, never touched a tennis ball before,” she said. The compliments from Williams come after Zendaya opened up about how she had been anxiously waiting for her reaction. She previously told ET that she was ” very nervous about her seeing my tennis skills,” and apologized “in advance” to Serena and her sister Venus.

The playful back-and-forth is the not only interaction the tennis star and the actor have had leading up to the film’s release. As part of her incredible method dressing wardrobe for the movie’s promotion, Zendaya recently recreated a Carolina Herrera look worn by Venus and Serena Williams in the May 1998 issue of Vogue US. Styled by none other than Law Roach, who collaborated with Carolina Herrera’s Wes Gordon on the look, the maximalist gown featured the same, bold, black and white stripes and a long train, while Zendaya opted for similar white beads in her hair as the Williams sisters. Venus took to Instagram to comment on the stylist’s post of the look” “Wow. No words! So much love for you.”
Hitting cinemas on April 26, after being delayed due to the Sag-Aftra strike, Challengers is a romantic sports comedy that tells the story of “three players who knew each other when they were teenagers as they compete in a tennis tournament to be the world-famous grand slam winner and reignite old rivalries on and off the court,” per the film’s synopsis.
