Zayn Malik has postponed his tour to January in the wake of former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne’s death.
Following Liam Payne’s death on October 16, former One Direction member Zayn Malik took to Instagram to share that he will be postponing the start of his upcoming Stairway to the Sky Tour. “Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I’ve made the decision to postpone the US leg of the Stairway to the Sky Tour,” read the statement on Malik’s Instagram story. The 31-year-old singer added that the tour dates would be rescheduled for January and that tickets would remain valid for those dates. “Love you all and thank you for your understanding,” Malik added.
In his personal tribute to Payne, Malik shared an old picture of them as young members of One Direction, reflected on their time as bandmates, and shared how much the late singer helped him. “I can’t help but think selfishly that there was [sic] so many more conversations for us to have in our lives,” he wrote. “I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life. When I was missing home as a 17 year old kid you would always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile and let me know that you were my friend and that was loved.”

“I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give to just hug one last and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly,” he added. Malik also signed his name in the joint statement shared by One Direction alongside members Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles, despite leaving the band in 2015 to pursue a solo career.
