5 Art Galleries and Events to Check Out in Dubai This Weekend

Art aficionados and budding artists have a lot to look forward to this March as Dubai celebrates its unofficial art month. From a new unique and immersive art gallery to the most ambitious edition of the city’s pre-eminent art fair, here are some of the best events to check out this weekend.

World Art Dubai 2022, March 16-19

World Art Dubai, which is named the region’s most affordable contemporary art fair is making its return this year with a roster of both, regional and international emerging artists. The retail art fair will feature over 300 artists and galleries from over 50 countries, showcasing over 400 pieces. NFTs will also be making a debut at World Art Dubai 2022 with an entire section dedicated to digital art talks by MENATech and CryptoSheikhs. Top international artists such as Ahsen Küçükçalıkand local artists such as Hend Rashid will also be showcasing their work.

‘Masters’ Show at Opera Gallery, March 8 – March 31

Opera Gallery is unveiling its latest Masters show titled Abstraction: A Visual Reality with a specially curated selection of abstract artworks spanning the 20th century, highlighting its various defining movements such as surrealism, abstract expressionism, arte pobra and lyrical abstraction. Artworks will include those of Alexander Calder, Hermann Nitsch, Antoni Tapies, Xiao-Min Feng and many more.

Rethink Art, until March 13

The second edition of Rethink Art is officially in motion successfully at Dubai Design District, a global hub for art, design and creativity. The exhibition will feature emerging and established local, regional and international names alike and will be pushing creative boundaries with workshops, immersive exhibitions and installation and talks covering fine and digital art.

This new immersive art gallery stimulates and involves the five senses by combining video, audio, aromas, light effects, fog, and temperature. Everything in the room is set to be automated by a centralized control system of the room or controlled via a tablet. The comprehensive use of technology bridges the gap between contemporary art and the digital world, bolstering the idea that art has infinite possibilities. Some familiar faces at this gallery include V.E.S.A. and John James.

Art Dubai has long been known as the city’s leading art exhibition. In its role as a talent incubator, Art Dubai is a significant platform, responsible for launching the careers of artists and curators. Over the past 15 years, the exhibition has cemented its role in being a significant catalyst in putting UAE on the global map in terms of its art scene. The event will entail several workshops and talks about art and more contemporary forms such as NFTs.
