Wired is Finally Coming to the Middle East

Today, Condé Nast International and Nervora, the Dubai-based publisher of Vogue Arabia, announced that they are extending their partnership with the launch of Wired Middle East. Internationally, this is the first license agreement with Condé Nast International for Wired, further strengthening the company’s presence in the Middle Eastern market.

Wired Middle East will debut first as a dual-language website in Arabic and English in spring, following in the footsteps of Vogue Arabia, which launched digital first in 2016. The bi-lingual digital platform will be followed by seasonal print magazine special issues beginning in Fall 2019. In addition, Wired ’s marquee events and consulting practice will also be launched in the region.

The decision to launch Wired in the Middle East is a significant one. Dubbed “required reading” by the late Steve Jobs, Wired is the world’s pre-eminent authority on technology, innovation, and ideas. With 60% of the region’s population under 30-years-old, the Middle East is primed for a forward-thinking brand like Wired. Across the region, governments are investing heavily in smart city projects, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. Meanwhile, IT spending within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region was projected at US $155 billion in 2018, with spend on consumer electronics exceeding US $80 billion.

“The Middle East region is one of the most vibrant markets in the world and home to upwards of 350 million people,” notes Markus Grindel, Managing Director of Global Brand Licensing at Condé Nast International. “Following the success of Vogue Arabia, we are delighted to be launching Wired in the market as well,” he states.

Echoing on his statement, Founder & CEO of Nervora, Shashi Menon remarked: “With the pervasive impact of technology on society, business, culture, and the world of tomorrow, there has never been a more critical time for Wired to come to the market. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be launching it in the Middle East.”

Nervora, which was founded in 2009, publishes premiere publications in both English and Arabic, including Vogue Arabia, PopSugar Middle East, and Wired Middle East. The hotly-anticipated Middle Eastern version of Wired will be the fifth edition of the brand worldwide, joining the United States, Britain, Italy, and Japan.
