Following her lavish nuptials in Italy’s Lake Como, Deepika Padukone needed a gown that made an equally elegant statement for her wedding reception in India – and one regional designer certainly delivered. The Bollywood actress called up Lebanese couturier Zuhair Murad to craft a theatrical creation for the star-studded event, held in Mumbai on Saturday evening.
The Beirut-based designer dreamed up a scarlet, floor-sweeping dress for the evening, which glimmered with intricate beadwork and embroidery. Padmaavat star Padukone added an ethereal red veil, after sporting traditional Indian dress to her previous wedding ceremonies to fellow actor Ranveer Singh. The reception ensemble was custom created for the newlywed, Murad revealed on Instagram, as the maison sent its “warmest congratulations” to the bride.
Groom Singh complemented the sartorial grandeur in a tuxedo by Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna, as he attended the bash held at the city’s Grand Hyatt hotel. Celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma, and Shilpa Shetty were in attendance, to help the couple fete their union. This weekend marked the second reception for the couple, who also celebrated their nuptials in Bangalore with friends and family, shortly after tying the knot in Italy on November 14 and 15. The screen star married her long-time beau at the 18th-century Villa del Balbianello, famed for its lush, manicured gardens.
The famously private couple and frequent co-stars, who are believed to have become romantically involved six years ago, first confirmed their engagement in January. Both major acting icons in India, the two have appeared together in films such as Bajirao Mastani and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela.
Padukone and Singh weren’t the only couple holding a high-profile wedding event in their native country this weekend either, with Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas exchanging vows at Jodhpur’s Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace on Saturday.
