Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Mindy Kaling are teaming up for a wedding comedy flick. Being described as “Crazy Rich Asians meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” the film will be set between America and India.
It will be produced by Universal Pictures who won the auction for the movie pitch. The screenplay is written by Kaling along with comedy writer Dan Goor of Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame. While details of the pitch haven’t fully surfaced yet, it is clear that the movie will have a playful take on the cultural aspects of big traditional Indian weddings.
Kaling took to Twitter to confirm the news about working with her “dream team” along with a photo of herself with Chopra Jonas and Goor. The Quantico star also shared her feelings about the project on Instagram as she wrote, “Two women with a passion for telling good stories, just got the green light to THEIR story THEIR way. So proud of this incredible partnership with @mindykaling and #dangoor! We are about to show you what it means to be modern, global, and Indian. See you at the cinema!”
