Vogue Arabia reviews the exuberant Speronari Suites, situated right in the heart of old Milan.
Nestled in the heart of old Milan, Speronari Suites is located between Via Torino and Via Falcone, mere steps away from the gothic marvel of Duomo di Milano. Surrounded by fashion-forward boutiques, internationally renowned exhibition spaces, and vibrant venues, the accommodation is ideal for anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the history and culture of Milan. Although the property began its life as a resident al building in the 1850s, it was recently reimagined by Angus Fiori Architects and interior designer Francesca Attolini into an elegant boutique hotel. High-quality materials, such as oak for the hardwood flooring and wainscoting and bronze for the for the finishes, feature throughout the six floors. Warmer tones dominate the interiors as beige and brown are punctuated by splashes of yellow to evoke both style and comfort. A minimalist design sensibility is apparent at every turn, from ornamental objects to lighting and furniture.
Among these elements, pieces by the likes of Tom Dixon, Dedar, and Zava are displayed, crafting a unique and inviting atmosphere at the Speronari Suites. Despite this contemporary aesthetic, guests remain immersed in their historic surroundings. Many of the suites provide views of the 15th-century church of Santa Maria at San Satiro – home to one of the most famous and realistic trompe-l’œil wonders in the world, a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance perspective painting by the architect Donato Bramante.
While visitors can find Italian cuisine at every corner of the city, Speronari Suites offers something a little different: a taste of Buenos Aires. From the interior to the menu, everything at El Porteño transports diners to the Argentine capital – most of the furnishings, along with the much-loved meat, come all the way from Argentina. The latest model of Finnish saunas from Starpool can be found on the property. Dry and intense heat envelopes the body, ensuring that every ounce of fatigue melts away. From €300 per night
