Frequently hailed as one of the must-visit destinations in the world with its pristine beaches and exclusive resorts, the Maldives has no shortage of luxury stays on idyllic islands. However, there is something decidedly unique about the newly-opened Pullman Maldives Maamutaa Resort. Less than an hour flight from Malé, the secluded escape opened its doors at the end of September, inviting guests to experience an all-inclusive holiday in a lush marine oasis.

Nestled amidst 19 hectares of overflowing vegetation on the Gaafu Alifu Atoll where over 87 percent of the island is covered in thick mangroves, towering palm trees, and exotic flora, it’s easy to stumble upon picturesque corners with panoramic seascape vistas throughout the property. Featuring 122 over-water and beachside villas with direct access to the atoll’s inviting turquoise waters, the Pullman Maamutaa is a haven for aquatic humans and animals alike. Not only do the two Aqua Villas with its underwater bedrooms give an insider’s glimpse into life beneath the sea but also the Royal Suite provides a home away from home with four bedrooms, private butler and chef services, and personal gym and spa rooms.

With slightly cooler water temperatures than other Maldivian locations, the Gaafu Alifu Atoll is often touted as one of the best spots to meet the region’s vibrant marine community, including eye-catching coral reefs teeming with creatures such as dolphins, turtles, and up to 13 species of sharks. Scuba dive or snorkel in one of the 26 dive sites surrounding one of the country’s largest and deepest blue lagoons for a closer look or learn ashore during a nature trail walk with the resort’s resident marine biologist.

Promoting a holistic approach to wellbeing and a harmonious relationship with nature, Pullman’s fitness and wellness activities incorporate the outdoors as much as possible, from a jogging track traversing the island with five exercise stations to the Raaveriya Workout boot-camp including calisthenics using wooden logs and heavy stones, a run along the beach, and a rejuvenating swim to cap it off. For a more relaxed interaction with nature, guests can indulge in signature facials and massage therapies at the Spa by Phytomer’s treatment rooms overlooking yet another scenic lagoon.
