On Tuesday, Vogue Arabia unveiled its March 2018 anniversary issue featuring Imaan Hammam and Iman Abdulmajid side-by-side wearing Saint Laurent and The Wrap Life turbans, and social media collectively went into overdrive. Many took to Instagram to praise the cover for representing diversity, the Arab world, and of course, two generations of iconic models. Hammam reposted the cover on her Instagram page, captioning it “MOM MY DREAM CAME TRUE!!! IMAN AND IMAAN! It was such an honor to be part of this amazing cover!” alongside several praying hand and red heart emojis. Echoing the model’s statement, Iman wrote “Shukran (Thank you) One for the ages!” Other celebrities to repost the image include Naomi Campbell and Zendaya, who dubbed it “absolutely stunning.”

This cover is groundbreaking in that the models are A) brown-skinned and B) Iman is from Somalia. Most often highlighted as beauty ideals across the Middle Eastern diaspora are ladies of a fairer tone (when we come in ALL shades) from a select few countries.
