Seeing as we are about halfway through 2024, most of the UAE‘s long weekends are behind us. However, there is one last guaranteed long weekend on the way for this year, which will also kick off the end-of-the-year festivities. On December 2 and 3, the country will celebrate its National Day, or Union Day as it is now known, which is said to be a two-day holiday. According to the UAE Cabinet, both public and private sector employees will have a break of two days which fall on Monday and Tuesday, meaning that it will be a four-day weekend for those who have Saturdays off.

Closer than December is the Islamic New Year, expected to fall on July 7, which is a Sunday. This could change as per the second part of the UAE Cabinet’s resolution No. 27 of 2024, which states that “with the exception of Eid holidays, any of the official holidays … may be carried over by a Cabinet decision to the beginning or end of the week.” UAE residents will have to be on the lookout for an official announcement from theMinistry of Human Resources & Emiratisation, but until then, the Union Day long weekend is a confirmed one.

The government has also released the full list of public holidays for 2025, starting with New Year’s Day on January 1, which falls on Wednesday. As is the case every year, the official days for all Islamic festivals will only be confirmed close to the date of the moon sighting, however, the calendar offers enough information to plan holidays tentatively.
