For those who call the UAE home, there is a unique opportunity allowing you to prove your love for the region through song. Confused? Don’t be. The Organizing Committee of the Official 49th National Day Celebration is inviting UAE residents to submit recordings of them performing the country’s national anthem as part of the Eishy Bilady campaign.

The campaign, named after the first two words of the UAE’s national anthem in Arabic, meaning “long live our country”, looks to bring people across the country together in celebration of National Day. People are encouraged to submit recordings of themselves singing the national anthem, with a selection of the performances set to be broadcast as part of the official National Day live show that will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 2. Submissions will also be showcased across all of the National Day social media channels.

A dedicated website has been set up in honor of UAE National Day, where specific instructions on how to make a recording have been published. Residents can also submit their videos via the celebration’s official social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, under the @OfficialUAEND name.  The organizing committee has stated that participants of all ages, nationalities, and singing abilities are welcome to join the initiative, by submitting a performance accompanied by the hashtag #Eishy_Bilady wherever possible. Entries for the campaign can be submitted until November 30.

The development of the campaign follows the strict safety measures that will be imposed on many public National Day celebrations, in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. “With COVID-19 restrictions on public celebrations, this mass performance of the national anthem provides an opportunity for people across the country to unite in song, providing solace through music in these trying times,” says Khalfan Al Mazrouei, a member of the committee. “This year, more than ever, is important for the community to come together as one voice in hope and positivity for the future,” he added.
