The time for celebrations is upon us once again, with the 51st National Day of the UAE just around the corner. The milestone occasion, which falls on December 2, kicks off the last month of the year on a joyous note, and this year, is bringing a wonderfully long weekend with it.
The National Day holiday has officially been confirmed to begin on Thursday, December 1, and run through the normal weekend of Saturday and Sunday. Counting Friday, December 2 as well, this gives employees a total of four days off to unwind, celebrate the occasion with loved ones, and even consider a quick getaway. While there is no confirmation yet, it’s likely that the same four days will be given off to those in both, public and private sectors.
National Day marks the day back in 1971 when six emirates came together to form the United Arab Emirates. Ras Al Khaimah was added to the family just a year later.
The four day holiday also counts Commemoration Day (earlier known as Martyr’s Day), which is an annual event held in remembrance of those who have lost their lives in the line of service. Though Commemoration Day takes place on November 30, it has in the recent years been marked with a public holiday on December 1 instead.
