Amira Haroon On Her Fashion Week Debut

Emerging Dubai-based fashion designer Amira Haroon presented her Spring 2018 collection to fashion editors, buyers, and bloggers as part of London Fashion Week.

Held during the Fashion Scout London event on September 15, it was the designer’s first time showcasing her creations at LFW, six years on from launching her brand. Here looks back through Haroon’s diary from her big event – from early starts to lashings of hairspray backstage. Peek behind the curtain of fashion week in the UK’s capital.

Haroon was selected to participate in Fashion Scout London after winning the DDFC x FAD Dubai Fashion Showcase. The initiative, which spotlights UAE-based designers during London Fashion Week, thrust the young ready-to-wear womenswear designer in front of an international audience. The 18-look runway collection was punctuated with silk dresses and glittering separates in green, deep red, and blue colorways. Key pieces included a corseted, single-shoulder gown that came in both red and black and a sparkly, gold suit. Footwear was provided by Parisian shoe brand, Aperlaï.

As for the hair and makeup, Haroon sought inspiration from Whitney Houston’s 1985 How Will I Know music video. This translated as fuzzy, come-as-you-are curls, prismatic purple eyeshadow and metallic lipstick on the runway.

Here, Haroon shares her exclusive diary from her London Fashion Week debut with Vogue Arabia, from getting her hair done ahead of the show, to last-minute fittings.
