She has previously sung about her love for New York, and it looks like one North African nation is also inspiring poetry in Alicia Keys. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter touched down in Egypt this week, where she’s been exploring the country’s architectural and archaeological treasures.
“There’s so much to see, there’s so much to know, so much to uncover, so many ways to grow,” the American songstress captioned a selfie shortly after touching down. “I’ve been waiting for this moment forever.” Referring to the nation by the ancient term Kemet, the mother-of-two has since taken to Instagram to share several stunning snapshots of her time in the country.
The star has been joined by her husband, DJ and producer Swizz Beatz, on the trip, as well as their two sons (one of whom shares a namesake with the location), Genesis and Egypt. The family have so far taken in the sights of Giza, including the Great Sphinx, as well as the temples of Luxor.
“We have been Nesu and Nesa (Kings and Queens) for thousands of years! Greatness is in our DNA! Genius runs through our veins!” Keys captioned one image as she posed in front of the pyramids.
In a photo posted on his own Instagram page, Swizz Beatz, whose father hails from Eriteria, paid tribute to the importance of “exploring our own culture”.“We must learn about our own culture. It’s sad they never tell us the truth about it,” he said captioned one image. “I feel at home and at peace”.
Keys also drew attention to the educational opportunities the trip offered, revealing she wanted to show her sons “how incredible our ancestors were”. “The first astrophysicists, scientists, physicians, mathematicians, architects, creators of so much of the world as we know it. It’s such a blessing to know what cloth you’re cut from!” she wrote alongside a shot of the boys playing in the sand.
The North African nation has attracted a plethora of famous faces in recent months, with Kourtney Kardashian, Lily Donaldson, and Hilary Swank sharing snapshots of their Egyptian vacations online.
