The White Lotus is easily one of the most anticipated post-Sag-Aftra strike series. After captivating audiences worldwide with just two seasons, the HBO family vacation drama is set to return in 2025. According to Deadline, casting for season 3 has already begun, and filming is expected to start in Thailand in February 2024.
Speaking to EW, series creator Mike White hinted at a “longer, bigger, crazier” season. “It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus,'” he said. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing … I’m super excited about the content of the season.”
White also revealed what fans may expect in terms of the plot of the new season set in Thailand. “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality,” he told Variety. “It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
Fans will be eagerly waiting for the cast reveal as well, keeping an eye out for any returning characters, given that it may just offer where the story is heading. Season 1’s Natasha Rothwell, who played spa manager Belinda has been confirmed to return, and White has previously stated that he would be open to bringing back Connie Britton’s Nicole Mossbacher, or Greg played by Jon Gries. “It would be easy to just be full-on anthology, but I think it’s more fun to have little threads through the show,” he said. “If the show goes on for a couple of seasons, it would be fun to have an all-star season.”
