In honor of Prince Charles’s 70th birthday, Clarence House has released two new royal family portraits.
In both of them, the Prince of Wales sits in the garden of Clarence House surrounded by his close family—the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle. Each member is dressed in blue and white, down to little Louis.
Both photos were taken by Chris Jackson, who also took Prince George’s 4th birthday portrait. The first is a posed and poised shot, with the entire group smiling and looking at the camera. The second is much more candid. Prince George laughs on Prince Charles’s knee, as the Duchess of Cornwall points something out to Princess Charlotte. Meghan leans forward, laughing.

It’s just the latest Prince Charles–related media to be released to the public. Earlier in the month a documentary, Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70, aired on the BBC. In it, Prince Harry opened up about how he asked his father to walk Meghan down the aisle after her own father pulled out of their May 19 nuptials. “I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said, ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs, and I’m here to support you,’ ” Harry said. “For him, that’s a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support, and you know he’s our father so of course he’s gonna be there for us,” he said.
Tomorrow, there will be a birthday celebration for Charles at Buckingham Palace—turning 70 is certainly a milestone befitting a grand soiree.
