American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift, celebrated for her recent praiseworthy collection of songs Folklore and Evermore, is set to make a comeback onscreen, collaborating with Egyptian-American Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek in renowned director David O. Russell’s upcoming movie.
The unnamed film, the story and title of which are hidden, will also feature prominent figures such as Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Zoe Saldana and more.
This movie will be Russell’s first feature since his 2015 film, Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence. The filmmaker and scriptwriter has helmed Oscar-winning movies such as Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle. The release date of the upcoming film is yet to be announced.
2020 Golden Globes award winner Malek, best known for his heartwarming performance of the band Queen’s lead singer Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, has also starred in critically acclaimed TV thriller-drama Mr. Robot.
Russell’s large-scale collaboration will be Swift’s first film since 2019’s Cats, a musical adaptation of the long-running Andrew Lloyd Webber stage show. The film also starred Idris Elba, Dame Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson and Jason Derulo. Swift played Bombalurina, an impish orange Bengal cat.
The 11-time Grammy winner has also previously acted in the 2010 rom-com Valentine’s Day, which also featured an ensemble cast including Jennifer Garner, Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Bradley Cooper, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Biel. She further played the role of a high-school student Felicia, enjoying the freshness of new love with her boyfriend Willy (played by Taylor Lautner).
Swift also had a role in the dystopian drama The Giver, as well as a voice role in the Dr Seuss animated film The Lorax. Last year, she was the subject of the documentary Miss Americana, currently streaming on Netflix, that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
