A slew of well-known regional artists including Lebanese singer Maya Diab is coming together for a virtual fundraising concert, titled ‘The Sound of Beirut’, in support of the victims of the Beirut explosions. The blasts on August 4 in the Lebanese capital have taken the lives of and injured thousands while leaving many people homeless because of property damage of over US $10 billion.

Scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 8, the event will see artists such as Craig David, Bebe RexhaFrench Montana, and many more international acts team up and perform for the virtual concert and send messages of support to Lebanon. Among the 24 Arabic artists featuring in the virtual stage include Maya Diab, Ragheb Alama, Balqees, Mishaal, and Souad Massi.

The virtual concert will take place on the Lebanese streaming app Anghami, which has prompted and supported many initiatives since the blast, by sharing links to fundraisers organized by NGOs. Chief executive and co-founder of Anghami, Eddy Maroun said, “We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters impacted so heavily by this tragic explosion. I would like to thank Sony Music, all the artists, and our partners involved in this important fundraising initiative. The world has truly come together to support this cause, but we know more needs to be done so please tune in to see these fantastic acts, and give generously.” The full line-up for the event has been released on Anghami’s website.

While the event itself is free to watch, fans can choose to donate on the event page with all funds raised going towards the Global Aid for Lebanon campaign, in collaboration with the UN World Food Program.

The Sound of Beirut concert will run for around two hours and is free for fans to stream through the streaming app Anghami and Lebanon TV on Tuesday, September 8 from 10 pm GST.

For fans in the UAE, Vox Cinemas have announced that they will be live streaming the event at its cinemas in Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Mirdif, and Yas Mall. All the proceeds for the tickets will also be donated to the Global Aid for Lebanon campaign, in collaboration with the UN World Food Program.
