After over 20 years, Sherihan has made her highly awaited comeback this Ramadan. The iconic Egyptian actor returned on screen in a four-minute advertisement for Vodafone Egypt that marked the first day of the Holy Month. The emotional ad tells the tale of Sherihan’s emblematic career, starting with her very first Fawazeer in 1985 which was deemed to be one of the most seminal shows that aired during Ramadan, to her car accident, followed by years of her battle with cancer.

The touching advertisement weaves in sentiments of resilience, as Sherihan highlights her past mishaps and making it a point to never succumb to them as her nostalgia-inducing comeback sparked reactions all over social media.

The Ramadan variety shows initially began with Egyptian actor Nelly from 1975 to 1981. The shows then skyrocketed in popularity after Sherihan’s arrival in 1985, as she starred in one of the most popular Ramadan series: Fawazeer Ramadan (Ramadan riddles). Directed by Fahmy Abdel Hameed, each episode was centered around a particular riddle and a number of sketches that witnessed Sherihan dance, sing, and act dressed in the most extravagant costumes and makeup.

Among the many that took to social media to express their excitement around Sherihan’s comeback is Lebanese couturier Zuhair Murad who created a bespoke look for the actor. “After more than 20 years @sherihanofficial makes an impressive comeback with an ad for @vodafoneegypt that leaves a strong impressions and takes the social media by storm,” wrote the designer. “The star is wearing custom made @zuhairmuradofficial.
