Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which continues to attract tourists and stars from all around the world, will now stay open for nightly tours.
The renowned cultural landmark has announced that it will remain open around the clock as it begins to welcome visitors to discover the mosque at night. While the architecture of the landmark is breathtaking in daylight, it is just as magnificent as it lights up post-sunset, and its many chandeliers are turned on to bathe the area in a soft glow. Visitors can now take in this view late into the night, as the new Sura Evening Cultural Tours have been launched specially for those travelers in transit who wish to visit the landmark at any time during their short stay in the capital.
According to the Grand Mosque’s website, the nightly tours will offer visitors a chance to discover “hidden gems within the mosque that they may have never seen before, such as witnessing the exceptional maintenance and cleaning works and enjoying the tranquil atmosphere that envelops the mosque at night.” The tour features a multimedia guide device, which is available in 14 international languages, including accessible options for the visually impaired and deaf people. “It allows them to delve into the history of the mosque’s establishment and marvel at the architectural richness of its Islamic design,” reads the announcement.
Visiting the mosque during the regular opening hours—from 9am to 9.30pm—is free of charge, however, a fee of AED 20 is applied per visitor for groups of 20 people for the nightly tours. To book a spot, payment and registration must be made via the mosque’s website, after entering a reason for visiting at night, and selecting from the hourly slots from 10pm to 6am.
A visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a must for those traveling to Abu Dhabi, as a number of celebrity sightings at the landmark have proven. Most recently, those spotted at the mosque include Naomi Campbell, Jennie from Blackpink, Jason Statham, and Rosie Huntington-Whitely, while Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Shanina Shaik, and more have also visited over the years.
