Videos of people everywhere singing from their balconies, and applauding healthcare workers in solidarity during the Covid-19 pandemic have taken the world by storm. As the citizens and residents of the UAE joined the world in showing their support, these videos emanating their love for the UAE reached His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who was moved to tears.
“Many residents on social media are singing our national anthem and I want to confess to all viewers that when I heard you, by God, I shed a tear,” shared The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces in a video conference on Monday. Emotionally moved by the love for the country shown even by expatriate residents, Sheikh Mohamed said, “May God protect you and protect the country you are in, to which you are loyal like its own people.”
Sheikh Mohamed also praised the people’s commitment, and their cooperation with the public bodies in the battle to curb the spread of Covid-19. “We are proud of our citizens and expatriate residents living on the soil of our country,” he said. “We are proud of expatriate residents who share with us our identity. It’s impressive to hear our residents chanting the national anthem of the UAE on social media platforms as the National Disinfection Programme is being carried out nationwide. God bless you all, and God Willing, we will survive these trying times.”
The video conference had been held between Sheikh Mohamed and key officials and ministers of the government to discuss the preventive measures to combat Covid-19 in the country. As he was briefed on the latest efforts being taken to safeguard public health, Sheikh Mohamed reassured the citizens and residents of UAE’s capability to overcome these challenging times. “Food and medicine supply and all other life essentials are in safe hands in the UAE whatever direction the crisis may lead us in. We will never be reluctant to take whatever necessary against any potential threat to people’s life,” said Sheikh Mohamed.
