On Monday, September 2, HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces met with Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad.
At Abu Dhabi’s Qasr Al Bahr, Murad and Sheikh Mohamed discussed the efforts in strengthening women’s empowerment around the world among a number of issues of common interest. In the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed also stressed the importance of regional and global organizations working together to counter violence and discrimination against women, which ensures fairness, peace, co-existence, and acceptance in the world.
Murad also expressed her appreciation of the UAE’s role in underpinning the values of tolerance and peaceful co-existence and commended the government’s belief in the role played by women in ensuring social and sustainable development.

Attending the meeting were Dr Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of Federal National Council; HH Sheikh Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan; HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation; HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; and a number of high-ranking officials and UAE nationals.
Murad is the first Iraqi to win the Nobel Peace Prize and is also the first UN goodwill ambassador for survivors of human trafficking. She survived captivity in Iraq and went on to become a Yazidi human rights activist. While accepting the Nobel Prize, the Iraqi activist called for action to be taken against war criminals, and later, in her first major public appearance since winning the prize, called for the global community to support and seek justice for minorities.
