Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, son of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, tragically passed away on July 1 in London, UK.
In a statement, the Sharjah Ruler’s Court expressed its deepest condolences to the Ruler of Sharjah, the family of the deceased, and members of the Al Qasimi family, praying to Allah the Almighty to rest his soul in Paradise. Sheikh Dr Sultan shared the announcement on his personal Instagram account, along with a black and white photo of his youngest son. He added in the caption, “Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi is in the care of God.”
The Emirate of Sharjah has declared a three-day mourning period, during which the UAE flags will be flown at half-mast, beginning with the arrival of the body and the funeral prayer. Exact details of the arrival of the body and the funeral prayer are yet to be announced. Details of the cause of death are also yet to be released. However, Sheikh Khalid Al Qasimi often traveled to the UK capital on holiday. He was fond of the city and even shared his favorite places in a recent Vogue interview.
Sheikh Khalid, 39, was an architect and chairman of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council and led work on the Sharjah Architecture Triennial, an exhibition event which happens every three years. The young royal was also the designer behind the British menswear label Qasimi, whose debut collection premiered in 2008. His collections were hugely popular, to the extent fashion label Vetements recently came under fire for copying a Qasimi design in its latest collection.
