As Dubai continues to ease Covid-19 restrictions, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, embarked on a fishing expedition this past weekend. Although the UAE royal used to frequently post photos alongside his larger-than-life catches, the previous #StayHome measures led to a moratorium of his exciting spearfishing trips. However, now that Dubai is gradually reopening leisure facilities including beaches, gyms, and malls, updated sets of guidelines allow for R&R activities to resume with proper social distancing and sanitary measures in place.
Sharing a fisheye’s view into his local day trip on Friday, June 5, Sheikh Hamdan posted a series of videos and photos of his outdoor outing on his Instagram stories, including rescuing crabs on the beach, expertly driving their boat to open waters, and catching one fish after another even as summer temperatures soared. The Crown Prince’s quick fix to cool down? Dousing a fellow fisherman’s head with water and snacking on fresh watermelon.

Renowned to be an avid adventurer and photographer, the Crown Prince of Dubai often shares a personal glimpse into his thrilling escapades around the world with his ten million Instagram followers, from hiking the Scottish mountainside and snowboarding in Canada to horseback riding in Saudi Arabia.
Throughout the pandemic, however, Sheikh Hamdan has taken to social media to share uplifting messages and important updates for UAE residents, whether it’s penning a letter of support to healthcare workers and government employees or urging residents to act responsibly to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the entire community. As local businesses return to operating with 100% capacity from next week onwards amidst a struggling global economy and many hard-hit industries, Sheikh Hamdan took to Twitter to post an inspiring sentiment about the power of each of us as well as the UAE overall has to overcome challenges and “emerge stronger” than before, no matter the crisis.
Past experiences have strongly motivated us to work hard & succeed. We will emerge stronger & more determined than before, and show the world a model of flexibility, and ability to overcome crises and transform challenges into opportunities.
