Sharjah residents are in for a treat as the emirate is all set to have its first drive-in cinema soon. Welcoming moviegoers from July 1, the cinema will offer nightly movies, free of charge on a first-come-first-served basis.

The drive-in cinema will be located at Madar at Aljada, which is Sharjah‘s recently-opened, family-friendly entertainment complex collaborating with Urban Entertainment to bring this experience to the emirate for the first time. Dubbed ‘Movie Nights at Aljada,’ the experience aims to showcase “a wide range of films throughout the summer period and beyond, in a fun and secure environment”, according to a statement.

Residents will be able to watch films daily with screenings taking place at 8pm at the venue which has the capacity to host 150 vehicles at a time. Moviegoers will be allocated specific parking spaces and will be able to access the sound of the movie by tuning to a specific frequency on their car’s FM radio. They are also not allowed to leave their vehicles during screenings unless they need to use the restroom in which case they must notify a member of the venue’s security staff. While the same restrictions are applicable to food-ordering, the option to pick from 17 different types of cuisine is sure to make up for it. Moviegoers can order their snacks directly from Zad at Aljada, the development’s food district, and have them delivered to their cars in a safe and contactless manner.

As for the movies to be screened, their full schedule will be uploaded to the Aljada website a few days before the launch date and will also be available on the cinema’s Facebook and Instagram channels.

“Movie Nights at Aljada is a significant addition to the list of attractions on offer at Madar at Aljada, and it is also our way of thanking the Sharjah community for its strength and resilience during these exceptionally challenging times. We look forward to welcoming guests back to Aljada and providing them with a safe form of entertainment,” said Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Arada, in a statement.

The past week also saw the opening of UAE’s first-ever drive-in cinema experience by Vox Cinemas. Located by the Mall of the Emirates, the venue fills up fast as tickets sell out quick but Dubai residents will soon have more such cinemas to visit. Emaar’s Reel Cinemas recently announced on its social media that a new drive-in concept will be launched by the retail giant soon at The Dubai Mall Zabeel.
