Selena Gomez is to star in a brand new psychological thriller called Spiral. Playing the protagonist, a former influencer “whose addiction to social media is causing her body to literally fall apart,” Gomez’s role is meant to throw light on the dizzying downfall of those who take it a bit too far.
The news of the new film comes after Gomez finished shooting her Hulu series Only Murders in the Building earlier this month, which stars the singer in the role of a curious true-crime enthusiast, who ends up entangled in solving a murder in her building. The directorial debut by Canadian photographer and artist Petra Collins, who previously collaborated with Gomez on her music videos “Bad Liar” and “Fetish,” shared on her social media, “I’ve been spiraling about this for 3 years and so excited to finally share💕!!!!”
The collaboration is taken up another notch with Drake on board to executive produce the feature along with Matthew Budman and Sumaiya Kaveh through Forest Hill Entertainment.
Gomez earlier shared, while opening up about her role, that despite playing a social media addict, in her real life she isn’t that attached to the online world and has someone else run her social media accounts. “I woke up one morning and looked at Instagram, like every other person, and I was done. I was tired of reading horrible things. I was tired of seeing other people’s lives. After that decision, it was instant freedom. My life in front of me was my life, and I was present, and I could not have been more happy about it,” she told Vogue.
Stay tuned to find out which streaming service will finally debut this film, considering the massive hype around this Black Mirror-esque project so far.
