Actor and singer Selena Gomez is all set to produce the reboot of 1980s classic Working Girl along with 20th Century Studios. The movie’s screenplay will be adapted by Ilana Pena, who is the creator of the Disney+ series Diary of a Future President, and will most likely premiere on Hulu, however, the exact plot details and the director of the film are yet to be announced.

The original movie starred Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver and Joan Cusack in lead roles and follows the story of an ambitious 30-something Staten Island secretary who takes over office operations while her boss is recovering from a broken leg.

Griffith shared an image of the 1988 film’s poster on Instagram back in 2018 to celebrate its 30th anniversary. “30 years ago today Working Girl opened in theaters worldwide,” the actor wrote and added, “I am so grateful to have played Tess McGill and to have helped empower women all of these years.” She added, “I am so grateful and proud to have been a part of this marvelous cast and especially grateful to our director Mike Nichols. So happy it stands the test of time”. Griffith concluded the caption by adding, “So … here’s to all of the working people who dare to dream big and who have the courage to believe in themselves against all odds!! Go for it!! ♥”

Working Girl was a commercial and critical success, with a box office collection of more than US $100 million globally along with earning six Oscar nominations, including best picture and best director for Nichols, Best Actress nomination for Griffith, and Supporting nominations for Cusack and Weaver.

This is not Gomez’s first time in the producer’s chair. The former Disney star from Wizards of Waverly Place had taken on the role with Hulu’s comedy series Only Murders in the Building and also stars in the show opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short. The show was met with positive reviews and even landed a number of Emmy nominations including Best Comedy following its first season and is presently in the middle of its second season with the show renewed for an upcoming third season. Gomez also stars and produces the HBO Max cooking show ‘Selena + Chef’ which premiered on August 13, 2020, where the singer brushes up on her culinary skills with the help of master chefs.
