Award-winning actor, multi-platinum singer, and forthcoming beauty entrepreneur Selena Gomez is adding a new title to her long list of accolades: celebrity chef. Set to debut this summer on yet-to-be-launched streaming platform HBO Max, the unscripted series Untitled Cooking Project will put Gomez’s amateur culinary skills to the test as she attempts to whip up delectable dishes in this “unapologetically authentic cookalong.”

Throughout this extended lockdown period, Gomez has—like many of us with our banana bread recipes and Dalgona coffee creations—been busy experimenting in the kitchen, inviting her 175 million Instagram fans and fellow quarantine chefs along for the ride. This foray into cooking inspired the premise for this new 10-episode show, in which she will star and executive produce. Gomez broke the news on Tuesday, expressing her excitement for this next adventure along with a Spotify playlist of her favorite tracks to groove to while in chef mode.

“I’ve always been very vocal about my love of food,” said Gomez. “I think I’ve been asked hundreds of times in interviews if I had another career, what would I do and I’ve answered that it would be fun to be a chef. I definitely don’t have the formal training though! Like many of us while being home I find myself cooking more and experimenting in the kitchen.”

Internationally acclaimed master chefs will join Gomez remotely to share their trade secrets and insiders’ tips while she juggles the pressure and joy of learning how to prepare various cuisines as a beginner alone at home. Combining her passions as a philanthropist and UNICEF ambassador, each episode will also highlight a different food-related charity for viewers to give back while they peel, chop, and taste their way to success.

“We are so excited to have Selena Gomez in our first wave of programming on HBO Max and watch her adventures in the kitchen as she, like many of us, tries to improve her cooking skills during quarantine,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max. “Blending her determination with top-tier culinary artists is sure to entertain and educate viewers about something we’re all trying to work through – how to make cooking at home exciting, fun, and delicious.”

Gomez’s show will join HBO Max’s robust lineup of original programming already planned to release on May 27, including a Gossip Girl reboot, Anna Kendrick-headliner rom-com series Love Life, and the highly anticipated Friends reunion special to premiere at a later date.
