Singer and actor Selena Gomez will be producing an upcoming horror film titled Dollhouse. Set in New York‘s elite fashion scene, the film is being described as a psychological thriller in the vein of Black Swan and perhaps with a Devil Wears Prada spin on it. What’s more, Gomez might also feature in the film as reports say she has her eye on a starring role.
The 28-year-old will produce the film through her July Moon Productions alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps. “Selena’s involvement is an exciting direction for this project. She is supremely talented as both a star and a producer,” said Adam Fogelson, chairman of STXfilms Motion Picture Group which owns the global rights for the film. “Teaming Selena with Shawn and Dan’s expertise in the horror-thriller genre will elevate Dollhouse and we couldn’t be more thrilled by the way this is being developed.”
This is not Gomez’s first time taking up a role behind the camera. She was the executive producer of Hotel Transylvania 4, Sony’s animated film franchise in which she voices the lead female character, as well as that of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and the documentary Living Undocumented. More recently, the star served as the executive producer for the romantic comedy Broken Hearts Gallery, and stars in the HBO Max cooking series Selena+Chef which she also executive produces. Her upcoming projects include Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, produced and starring Gomez herself opposite actors Steve Martin and Martin Short.
The year 2020 has been a busy one for Gomez despite the Covid-19 lockdown. Besides dropping her hit album Rare, the singer collaborated with K-Pop girl group Blackpink on the much-loved song Ice Cream, while also launching her very own makeup brand, Rare Beauty.
