Just when you thought Selena Gomez couldn’t possibly be any more productive this year, she surprises us once again. After weeks of speculation, the singer finally confirmed her collaboration with the internationally renowned K-pop girl group Blackpink.
“So SO excited to announce @BlackPinkOfficial and I have a new song coming out August 28th,” Gomez broke the news on Twitter and Instagram. Blackpink also shared the announcement on their official Instagram page, alongside a sparkling poster featuring the two acts’ names over what appears to be dripping chocolate.
This highly anticipated collaboration will serve as the second official single from Blackpink’s upcoming debut album which is all set to release on October 2. As of now, Gomez is the only featured act on the set, although fans may have a few more surprises in store for them as the full tracklist hasn’t been released yet.
The news of this upcoming single follows Blackpink’s song with Lady Gaga named Sour Candy, which released in May, as well as the announcement of their debut album last month. The group is also fresh off of the success from their last single How You Like That. This high-energy pop song, peaked at no. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100, tying their previously-set peak position.
The news of this collaboration adds to an already extremely busy year for Gomez, with the release of her third studio album, Rare, the upcoming launch of her beauty line, the trailer for her HBO Max cooking show, her upcoming Hulu series, and now this. Fans surely have a lot to look forward to in the coming months.
