Rita Ora and Taika Waititi could be taking a trip down the aisle in their very near future.
The pop star and the film director just got engaged and are already wasting no time planning their wedding, according to The Sun. The couple recently made almost “simultaneous” proposals to one another and can’t wait any longer to kick off married life, planning an intimate, low-key ceremony in the very near future with a splashier party scheduled for later this summer.
A friend told the outlet, “This isn’t about them doing a big showy thing and crowing about it beforehand. It’s just about them being in love and deciding the time is right to formalize their relationship. They couldn’t be happier.” Ora is currently working on several film projects, as well as serving as a coach on The Voice Australia, while Waititi is also in production on a number of movies of his own, including an untitled Star Wars film. But while they’re both very busy, the newly betrothed couple are planning to get married as soon as both their schedules allow.
“They didn’t do a whole, ‘Will you marry me?’ thing and an Instagram post,” the insider added. “There’s no ring or big build-up. They just got closer and closer and eventually said to each other almost simultaneously, ‘I want to marry you.’ It’s actually really romantic and just exactly the way they are together.” They continued, “So the plan is to marry abroad, as soon as their respective projects end, with their closest friends and family around them. And then there will be a big celebration in London at a later stage, when they get the chance, with all their famous friends there. But for now it’s about getting down the aisle and making things official. There are a few details to iron out, but it’s coming soon and it’ll be beautifully intimate and perfectly them.”
Ora and Waititi have been dating for around a year and a half, going public with their relationship for the first time last year on the red carpet at the premiere of suicide squad. But while they’ve only been romantically linked for 18 months, the duo have actually been friends for years. In February, Ora shared a tribute to her boyfriend on Instagram, posting a series of photos of the two of them together with the caption, “Us. 4 years ago. To now. thanks for being cool. And entertaining me forevs..Happy Valentine’s Day bestie.”
