Over hundreds of years, the world has been learning so much about the brain and the way it functions. However, its complex webs of processing require much more than simple research. Paris Brain Institute, aka Institut du Cerveau, is a nonprofit organization located at the heart of the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris that aims to decode this organ and its intricate systems—and Richard Mille, co-founder of the eponymous Swiss luxury watch company, has been among its biggest supporters since 2012.

Fostering scientific and medical research in neuroscience, Paris Brain Institute offers a platform for researchers and medical experts to create a dialogue on their disciplines and backgrounds while developing treatments for underlying diseases. Contributing to the expansion of knowledge in this field, the institution thrives on the grounds of offering personalized, preventative, participatory, and predictive solutions to brain disorders. “The Institute’s objective is to respond to a major challenge for the health of humanity: understanding and treating the brain. Thanks to technological advances, artificial intelligence, big data and the acceleration of progress in nanotechnology, we are witnessing exponential progress in our understanding of how our brains work, shared Professor Gérard Saillant, President of Paris Brain Institute.

Richard Mille made a commitment to the research center in 2019, as he became a member of its Campaign committee. This year, the brand expanded its supportive arm along the lines of starting a Donors’ Club, considering the essentiality of donor support for the progression, and fueling of innovation. Just a few years ago, the Institute had to campaign to recruit scientists. Today, it receives unsolicited applications from top researchers seeking to come and work there. In my view, it is our responsibility to support this success and level of performance by helping the Institute function optimally. Supporting a structure as advanced and promising as the ICM is a noble cause. Lending our support to this research helps saves lives and improve many existences,” Mille revealed.

The research center was established in 2010 by Professors Gérard Saillant, Yves Agid and Olivier Lyon-Caen, as an incubator for forming connections between patients, researchers, physicians, and entrepreneurs. “I was approached by my friend Jean Todt, who played a crucial part in the founding of the Paris Brain Institute, while Gérard Saillant, the Institute’s president, convinced me of the need to support this cause, to play a part in it by supporting the institution in a lasting and reliable manner to ensure the means to make long-term projections and greater visibility, shared Mille.
