The holy month of Ramadan is almost here three months into 2024, and the UAE has announced the reduction of working hours for the public and private sectors.
It’s not long until Ramadan begins, and for those working in the UAE, it means reduced working hours. Today, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced that the number of work hours for private sector employees will be reduced by two during the Islamic holy month. “In accordance with the requirements and nature of their work, companies may apply flexible or remote work patterns within the limits of the daily working hours during Ramadan,” read the statement.
Ramadan 2024 working hours have also been reduced for the public sector
The announcement followed that by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) for the public sector, which stated that working hours for ministries and federal entities during the month of Ramadan will be set from 9am to 2.30pm, Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, working hours will be further reduced, with employees working from 9am to 12pm. There may be exceptions to the working hours if the nature of their work demands a different schedule. The FAHR also added that ministries and federal entities will be allowed to continue implementing their adopted flexible working policies during Ramadan while ensuring that they meet the required daily working hours. Public sector employees may also be able to work from home on Fridays as per the guidelines that allow up to 70% of an entity’s workforce to carry out their duties remotely.
Ramadan in the UAE is set to begin on March 11, 2024, and is expected to last 30 days depending on the sighting of the crescent moon. It will see Muslims around the world fast from dawn to sunset while engaging in prayer, acts of spirituality, and charity.
