Being constructed as part of The World Islands’ Heart of Europe Project, ‘Raining Street,’ is soon to become Dubai‘s hottest — or rather, coolest new destination.
Staying true to its name, the innovative new street will provide visitors with a perpetual downpour of rain, occasionally adjusting its intensity to offset the otherwise hot summer weather. Inspired by the teachings of Austrian architect Camillo Sitte, who proposed that everything in a city should be within walking distance, the developers of Raining Street, The Kleindienst Group intend to use rainfall in a bid to lower the temperature outside, thus encouraging visitors to walk around outdoors.
Speaking to The National about their intentions for Raining Street, Josef Kleindienst, Chairman of the Kleindienst Group said “with the temperature ranging between 40 to 50 degrees Celsius during summer, people are not going to walk outside. Therefore, we need a technology to create an outdoor climate-controlled area.” Brining in engineers and consultants to further understand the Middle Eastern climate, the Group will use an impressively intuitive system of technology to determine whenever the temperature rises above 27 degrees celsius on the island. After which, “cold water in the form of rain will fall from top of the buildings through concealed pipes,” says Josef. Noting that this technology is somewhat administered across zoos in the UAE, who use a wet breeze system to keep visitors and animals cool, the chairman continues to say that the water droplets used are “somewhat short of what would be considered “rainfall”.
Located on the Main Europe island, next to the Portofino Family Hotel, Marbella Hotel, and Cote d’Azur Resort, Raining Street will bring a little slice of magic to what is already set to be a magical experience for visitors and residents alike. Featuring seven islands, 15 hotels, 4,000 holiday homes, and a snow plaza, work on The Heart of Europe has been underway since 2008, with the first set of homeowners moving in this year.
