HM Queen Rania Visits Low-Income Families in Tafileh

On Wednesday, HM Queen Rania Al Abdullah met with female beneficiaries of the Family Empowerment Project — a charitable initiative that offers work opportunities to low-income families — at the Al Hasa Young Women Centre in Tafileh.

Tafileh is a governorate southwest of Amman that has the highest unemployment rates in the country. During the visit, Her Majesty mingled with those that had benefitted from new initiatives led by the people themselves, with backing and funding provided by the Royal Hashemite Court. After meeting with the beneficiaries, the royal posted a photo on her Instagram alongside the caption: “The projects I heard about today from the residents of Tafileh are testament to its people’s ambition and resolve. I wish you further growth and prosperity.”

“What a pleasure it was to meet this group of hard-working and inspiring men and women during my visit to Tafileh yesterday,” added the Queen, who chatted and took photos with the women at the centre.

The new project, which was implemented with the Community Center Association (CCA) alongside 16 local societies, has so far resulted in the conception of over 200 income-generating projects across various fields in the Governorate of Tafileh, to help pull families up from below the poverty line.

“Through your hard work and ambition, you have succeeded in realizing your potential and bringing your businesses to life,” the Queen said, according to her website. “The projects that are generated from within a community are always the most successful. You know best what your community needs and what obstacles you will face along the way. And, most importantly, no one knows more about your capabilities and how to best utilize them.”

Her Majesty’s trip to the Al Hasa Young Women Centre comes just days after she visited the International Circassian Cultural Academy in Amman, where she praised the non-profit’s work in preserving the heritage of the population of the formerly independent country, located in present-day European Russia.

Indeed, the royal has been having quite a busy couple of weeks. In addition to delivering the keynote address at the 2018 TRT World Forum in the Turkish city of Istanbul earlier this month, where she urged the global community to “confront the harshest realities of our world without losing sight of our ideals,” the humanitarian also attended the HeForShe IMPACT Summit in New York. Speaking at the summit in September, Her Majesty paid tribute to the gender equality movement, but highlighted that more can be done, especially for those in the Arab world.
