Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas is known for using her platform to raise a voice for social causes like children’s education. She will now be honored by Unicef with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award at the Unicef Snowflake Ball which will take place on December 3 in New York.
Chopra Jonas took to Instagram and Twitter to share the news by posting a picture of her recent trip to Ethiopia. “So incredibly humbled. Thank you Unicef USA for honouring me with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award at the Unicef Snowflake Ball in December,” she wrote on Instagram. “My work with Unicef on behalf of all the world’s children means everything to me… Here’s to peace freedom and the right to education.”
The Isn’t It Romantic star has been working with the charity since 2006. In 2010, when she began her work with the charity to promote child and adolescent rights in India, she was appointed as the national Unicef Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights and later in 2016, she was made the global ambassador.
In May, she visited Ethiopia with Unicef to meet with the refugee children supported by the charity and while she was on the trip, her husband Nick Jonas shared on Instagram on how proud she made him. “@priyankachopra is so inspiring to me and so many people around the world every day. The work she does with @unicef is incredible. #proudhusband,” he wrote.
The Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award is named after the American actor Danny Kaye who worked closely with Unicef until his death in 1987.
