The manuscript for the ‘definitive account’ of the Duke of Sussex’s ‘experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons’ has reportedly been completed and signed off by lawyers.
Prince Harry’s upcoming memoir will reportedly hit shelves later this year, landing in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas gift market.
According to the Sun, the manuscript for the book was submitted by its ghostwriter, J R Moehringer, earlier this summer, with a ‘publishing source’ telling the tabloid: ‘The manuscript has been finished and gone through all of the legal processes. It’s done and out of Harry’s hands.’
The account of the Duke of Sussex’s life had previously been expected to debut in the autumn, with the source adding: ‘The publishing date has been pushed back once but it is on track for the end of the year.’
Penguin Random House broke the news of the ‘intimate and heartfelt’ memoir in July last year. The book will reportedly share the ‘definitive account’ of his ‘experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons,’ the publisher has said. Penguin released a statement on Instagram saying they were ‘honored’ to be working with the prince, alongside an illustrated quotation: ‘I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become’.
The Duke of Sussex, 37, who will donate the proceeds to charity, said in a statement: ‘I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story – the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned – I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.’
He added: ‘I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.’

The publisher gave a teaser of the book: ‘In an intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time, Prince Harry will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him. Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous, and uplifting human story.’
The book will be published in both print and digital form, as well as an audiobook edition that will be released simultaneously by Penguin Random House Audio. It comes following the publication of Finding Freedom, the 2020 biography of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex by journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand. It also follows a range of audio and broadcast interviews in which the duke has spoken candidly about growing up in the palace, the lasting, haunting effects of the death of his mother at such a young age, and how his experiences shaped him into the person he is today.

Markus Dohle, CEO of Penguin Random House, said: ‘All of us at Penguin Random House are thrilled to publish Prince Harry’s literary memoir and have him join the world-renowned leaders, icons, and change-makers we have been privileged to publish over the years.
‘Prince Harry has harnessed his extraordinary life experience as a prince, a soldier, and a knowledgeable advocate for social issues, establishing himself as a global leader recognized for his courage and openness. It is for that reason we’re excited to publish his honest and moving story.’

The author ghostwriting Prince Harry’s new book, J R Moehringer, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and writer who previously worked with tennis player Andre Agassi on his own memoir.
Sources have previously indicated that Harry informed the Queen about the writing of the memoir, with the MailOnline adding that he wishes to present his grandmother in a positive light.
The news comes amid recent reports that Netflix is keen to air its upcoming series about Harry and Meghan, created via the streaming giant’s Archewell Productions partnership with the couple, by the end of this year, to coincide with both the prince’s memoir and interest surrounding Season 5 of The Crown.
