The ancient sites of the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia evoke history on a grand scale, telling tales of caravans loaded with spices and aromatics and lush oases. AlUla is the Kingdom’s first Unesco World Heritage Site, its monumental ancient tombs and ruins cut into limestone and richly decorated with carvings of sphinxes, snakes, lions, and humans. This timeless desert destination will open to the public in October 2020 – and ahead of this much-anticipated event, Piaget and the Royal Commission for AlUla had joined in an exclusive partnership for the Winter at Tantora festival in AlUla. The cultural and historical destination hosted this world-first festival until March 7, bringing 12 weekends of wonder to the AlUla Oasis, inspired by its spectacular scenery.
AlUla is set on the ancient incense route between southern Arabia and Egypt and is one of the country’s most important archaeological and cultural destinations. Since culture and art are at the heart of building bridges between people and countries, the partnership with Piaget is a natural fit – with its heritage of creativity and craftsmanship, Piaget shares the same values as the Royal Commission for AlUla. It also marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration that is committed to benefit the AlUla community and continue to build Piaget’s legacy in Saudi Arabia.
As part of the festival, Piaget hosted an exclusive exhibition inside the Al Maraya concert venue, where visitors could experience its latest Sunlight collection. Paying homage to one of nature’s most powerful symbols, the Sunlight collection radiates with a joyous glow. Necklaces and earrings showcase sun shapes and feature precious gems like opal, diamonds, and mother-of-pearl. A unique opal pendant features the magnificent stone, sourced from Australia, surrounded by 28 diamonds that radiate from the center like rays. Each pendant is a one-off creation, with the range of subtle colors presented by each opal varying from yellow and red to green and blue, depending on movement and natural light. The exceptional mother-of-pearl pendant shimmers with intensity, surrounded by pink gold rays set with 49 diamonds. The delightful tassel pendant features pavéd diamonds in a delicate sun motif, tipped with a pink gold triangle that further encapsulates the life-giving sun.
Three diamond necklaces also echo the sun: one fully pavéd disc with diamond rays, one large crescent of diamond rays, and one smaller, more bijoux crescent. They can be worn single or layered, with chains of varying lengths – perfect for the modern Piaget woman. Two complementary sets of earrings beautifully match the collection. A pair of diamond studs with ear jackets, and another pair of studs with diamond and white gold rays suspended on chains. Further earrings include a pair of youthful diamond hoops, and a pair of tassel earrings, its pink gold chains shining like beams of light.
Together with the Royal Commission for AlUla, Piaget creates a unique allure – one of heritage, creativity and, above all, artistic values.
